Track Your Workouts With 1 Second Every Day
When you are pursuing a fitness goal, it ultimately matters not whether you exercised today, but what consistency you build over time . 1 Second Everyday app will help you visualize it.
1 Second Everyday is a video diary app better known for helping you watch your kids grow up . You simply select a video for each day, trim it to a one-second clip, and the app gives you monthly and yearly videos that combine your seconds.
I didn’t think of using it for fitness until I saw writer and runner Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan use the app to document her monthly run every day. I thought about doing my own one-month trial, but then I realized that I could just use the app to document the workouts I was already doing.
Therefore, every day I choose a clip. This is usually the lift I’m most proud of that day, but sometimes I turn on the extra lift to show that life isn’t all about snatches. Sometimes I run or swing a kettlebell; I’m trying to quickly grab a clip if that’s the case, or I’m inserting a still photo (like a screenshot of my run statistics if I used my watch or phone to track it).
And the rest of the days? I definitely include rest days. They are important because they are part of my rhythm. I’ll attach a photo or clip of something else that I was doing that day, like cooking, tinkering, or just messing around. Sometimes I go for a walk and film my steps on the grass or snow. (Another approach is to create a card that says “rest day.”)
It gives a complete picture of my life as an athlete. If I get into PR I will definitely include it, but most of the time I just invest in the work. Each month’s video becomes a tribute to the daily routine. Give it a try and show yourself how much you work.
