Use TikTok to Find Your Next Apartment
Everything from meal plans to high-end fashion is sold on social media, so it might not surprise you that ABC News reports that millennials are using the TikTok video app to find apartments. I was reminded of how Craigslist became the leader in cheap online rentals before it got branded for listing scams , but TikTok isn’t inundated with schematic real estate deals where you might feel the need to bring a bodyguard to shows – at least not yet. … Instead, it becomes a place to rent luxury apartments.
Madison Sutton , an agent for Highline Residential, told Bloomberg Wealth that the deals made through TikTok take into account her entire business during the quarantine. Whether you’re looking for a new place to live or just window shopping like Zillow, here’s how to add TikTok to your hunting bustle apartment.
Track real estate agents and companies
As with all popular social networks, the algorithm selects the content you see based on your browsing habits. This is why after I search for “where to get beauty treatments” I get a million and one advertisements for spa and facials (my channel is filled with skin care products). Usually we think that we are bombarded with ads about unnecessary things, and in some cases about what you have already bought, but if you are looking for an apartment, the algorithm can do all the work for you.
The easiest way is to start following realtors in your target area. Realtors with companies such as GZB Realty use the TikTok style of short videos, combined with catchy tunes, to take tours of apartments in the market. Others, such as @rgsellsatl , work with Morgan Reed Realty to run full tours of homes for sale in Atlanta, Georgia, and @ cash.jordan runs energetic tours of Manhattan’s high-rise buildings. Once you find a few in your area, it will be easy to find more.
Look for relevant hashtags
If you don’t already know the real estate agents in your area, use popular hashtags such as #forrent, #realtorsoftiktok and #apartments [specify city]. I did a simple search for #apartments and found videos of apartments from Houston to New York, each showing the neighborhood, rents, and a step-by-step listing guide. If you like the impressions of a particular user, subscribe to them to receive notifications every time they post a new one.
After you’ve done a few searches and signed up for real estate agents, you will notice that the algorithm will start offering similar content and you can effectively surf hundreds of apartments a day on your TikTok feed. Just remember to do your due diligence while researching companies and screening real estate agents before taking action. Like everything you find on the Internet, there are risks of fraud here .
