Update Your Mac, IPhone, IPad, and Apple Watch Today
If you’re looking for brand new features for your Apple devices, today’s updates from Apple will let you down. However, they are just as important to install on your Mac, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch today as they address an important vulnerability.
In fact, they all eliminate the same vulnerability for each device: WebKit problem, reported by researchers from Google and Microsoft. Its severity is rated ‘ high ‘ and it is easy to see why:
The vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in the processing of web content in WebKit. A remote attacker could create a specially crafted web page, trick a victim into opening it, cause memory corruption, and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in a complete compromise of the vulnerable system.
While it is true that there is little chance that you, the average internet connoisseur, will stumble upon such a site, there is absolutely no reason to delay quickly updating your devices today. The process couldn’t be easier:
- iPhone / iPad: Settings app> General> Software Update.
- Apple Watch: Watch app> General> Software update
- Mac: Apple logo> System Preferences> Software Update
When you are about to update your devices, you will update your iPhone and iPad to iOS and iPadOS 14.4.1 respectively. Your Apple Watch will be updated to version 7.3.2, and macOS Big Sur should now be running version 11.2.3.
Supported devices include anything equal to or later than iPhone 6s, iPad Air 2, or iPad Mini 4. And iPod Touch (7th generation) is also eligible for the update. All Apple Watch Series 3 and later smartwatches are eligible for the update. As far as Macs go, you just need to run macOS Big Sur, which works with quite a few desktops and laptops from a few years ago.
