Children’s Culture Guide: Flirting With Death for Adults on TikTok

Maybe it’s a belated reaction to the Halloween cancellation five months ago, or maybe it’s just me, but for some reason the internet was even more worrisome than usual last week. There were threatening stories in the news, a frightening viral video to enjoy, and the unique horror of being so old you wouldn’t even realize that the celebrity is anymore. So let’s get down to the ghostly one.

Scary News This Week: Haunted Elevator, Surprise Skull, and Real-life Candyman

I don’t have time to sit by the damn fire, but I still love to tell ghost stories, so here are three creepy tales the creepy kids share. The first takes place at the famous Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, where Eliza Lam met her horrific end in a rooftop water tank back in 2013. Internet ghoul Chris Star recently visited Cecil on a ghost hunt, stopped in Eliza Lam’s room, saw the famous elevator. opened on its own , heard a voice pronouncing the name Lama , and posted a video on her TikTok to prove it *.

Our second chilling story comes from YouTube, where British paranormal researchers and city explorers Danny and Felicity Duffy set out to look for the supernatural in an abandoned pub in the woods. Unlike most mystical searches, they did find something frightening – but it was not a ghost, ghost, whisper, or MIRACLE. It was areal dead body !

“It’s as real as it gets,” Danny says in his YouTube video, holding up the stranger’s skull. “It’s someone’s head. I’m not kidding right now. The couple called the Manchester police, who quickly launched an investigation. The cops don’t know how long the skull is or who it once belonged to, but we hope the answers will come up soon.

Our third scary story is the scariest of all. It all started last week in New York when TikToker member Samantha Hartso noticed a strange breeze blowing from behind the bathroom mirror in her apartment. She needed to figure it out, so she removed the mirror from the wall and found the whole room behind it. I would have moved out right then, but Hartsow apparently never saw Candyman, Parasite, Crawlspace , Bad Ronald or any horror movie at all , climbed through the hole and found a whole unfinished apartment. Fortunately, the deformed cannibals who live behind her bathroom mirror are gone for the night, so Harts managed to escape. You can watch the entire four-part saga on TikTok about Hartsow.

Celebrities You’ve Never Heard Of: CodeMiko’s Strange World

Falling down the rabbit hole of CodeMiko made me feel like I had left Simpson’s grandpa retirement home into a distant future where nothing makes sense and I have an onion on my belt. CodeMiko is a “virtual streamer” on Twitch, a 3D digital avatar that hangs out in a videogame-style world, chatting with his fans and giving live interviews with fellow streamers and random mainstream celebrities. She’s not the first to do this – probably Max Headroom – but CodeMiko takes the VTube genre in a new and meta direction.

The first is the interaction with the fans. For little money, her chatting fans can alter CodeMiko’s environment in real time – send messages on her chest, blow things up in her room, and even kill her with a nuclear bomb – all the while she sprinkles her guest with rapid fire. crazy interview questions.

To add another layer to the weirdness, there is “Technician”, allegedly the creator of CodeMiko, the woman who encodes Miko’s world and dons a motion capture costume to portray her. Unlike most VTubers, CodeMiko does not hide its “real” identity, often posting informal videos that cut through the fourth wall and allow you to see how a virtual sausage is made … if, of course, you believe what the Technician says.

It seems sincere enough, but the whole effort is so recursive and postmodern that I don’t believe this is more “real” than anything else. All in all, I really don’t know what to do about it, other than that it makes me feel incredibly old. But check this out if you want a glimpse into the future , but do it quickly. CodeMiko’s edgy style could very well get her banned from Twitch … if that’s not part of the action either.

Viral Video of the Week: Jake’s Camcorder Training, January 1997

Videographer and actor Brian David Gilbert has produced clever and engaging videos on YouTube from time to time over the past four years. His fanbase has grown to nearly a million subscribers thanks to semi-absurd comedy videos likeBuy Me a Bed andLet ‘sGet Good Darts , but lately Gilbert has been leaning towards the dark and the gruesome. His newest video, Jake’s Camcorder Training January 1997, is a full-length horror film told in one shot from a 1990s camcorder, and judging by how many people have shared it, this story of grief, existential horror, and outdated technologies are becoming more common among people. I hate to spoil it with a description, but if you like scary tales, this is for you.

This Week in Movies: Space Jam: The New Legacy Revealed

Entertainment Weekly revealed many details about the highly anticipated sequel to Space Jam: New Legacy. The sequel to the surprise 1997 hit Space Jam stars basketball greats LeBron James and Don Cheadle, as well as a complete collection of Looney Tunes favorites such as Bugs Bunny and Duffy Duck.

Whether James can fill up Space Jam star Michael Jordan’s sneakers is an open question, but the sequel at least seems unique. James will be drawn into the virtual world of Warner Brothers servers, where he will interact with WB intellectual property such as Wonder Woman, Mad Max and Casablanca . There will also be a climactic basketball game against strange cartoon monsters, you bet.

The movie will hit theaters and HBO Max on July 16, but you should see it on the big screen if it’s safe in your area. It would be too hard to expect a repeat of the magic of Space Jam , but watching LeBron kill cartoon monsters has to be watched in as big a format as possible … and I haven’t been to a movie in a year , so I definitely hope to leave my house for that.
