Get Free Repair for Power Reserve Error on Apple Watch

A small number of Apple Watch Series 5 and SE owners find their devices constantly stuck in Power Reserve mode. Affected devices appear to be powered on, but their screens are unresponsive and cannot be restarted. In other words, they are lined with bricks.

While this error is rare, it can occur with any Apple Watch Series 5 or SE running watchOS 7.2 or 7.3. Fortunately, Apple has confirmed the issue and offered several fixes.

First, Apple has fixed a bug in the watchOS 7.3.1 system update. Users with a running Apple Watch should install the new version right away to prevent Power Reserve from being locked. Make sure your Apple Watch is synced with your iPhone or iPad and both are on the same Wi-Fi network. Open the Watch app on your iPhone or iPad, then go to General> Software Update to download the patch.

Apple is also lending a lifeline to hapless souls with its brick-built Apple Watch Series 5 and SE. The Apple Watch SE is still under warranty and subject to repair, but the Apple Watch Series 5 is not (unless you have AppleCare). Luckily, Apple announced a free repair program to help users with damaged Apple Watch Series 5, even if they are not covered by warranty.

However, the company asks users to confirm that their devices are unresponsive before sending them in for repair. Connect your Apple Watch to the charger you usually use and wait at least 30 minutes. If your Apple Watch still won’t charge after this time, then it’s stuck in standby mode and you need to fix it.

Visit the Apple Support page to set up free Apple Watch repairs by mail. Once they receive it, Apple technicians will do another check to make sure your device is stuck in Power Reserve mode and eligible for repair.
