How to Take Screenshots of Full-Page Scrolling Websites on IOS
About once a year, I spend some time trying to figure out the best way to take a solid screenshot of an entire website, as I’m not always a fan of the CTRL + S approach for saving site data. I just wish I knew before how absurdly easy it is to do this on iOS.
I’ve tried many browser extensions that worked to varying degrees (until I found a reason why most of them usually got in my way). Hijacking the entire site on my iPhone now opens up many new possibilities, including being especially handy if I want to send someone a snapshot of what the site looks like the moment I browse or want to show someone how an error messes up my experience.
Whatever the reason, taking a screenshot of an entire website on iOS is easy. To get started, launch the website in the Safari browser on your device – after making sure you are using the latest version of iOS. Take a screenshot of the website as usual – Side Button + Volume Up , in my case. You will now see this screen:
If you don’t see those two options at the top – Screen and Full Page – iOS is probably fussy. Close Safari, reopen it, and try another screenshot. These options are critical as clicking on the full page is the magic sauce that will take you to this screen:
This little sidebar on the right, which you can scroll up and down, shows you the entire page captured by your phone. However, when you go to save it, you won’t lose it in your photo album, because your device doesn’t technically create a giant photo. Instead, your iPhone will convert this mega screenshot to PDF, so you’ll need to send it to a different folder on your device:
And it’s all. You now have a giant full-screen screenshot of whatever website you’ve viewed – the one that has already been converted to PDF for you. If you archive a lot of old work, I would say that this is almost easier to deal with than the desktop browser and extension combination, but that’s just me.
