How to Grant Temporary Access to Your Discord
I currently jump from different Discord servers more often than usual – thanks to the PUG World of Warcraft – and usually leave the server for good. I mean, it doesn’t make any sense to have some random Discord server litter the list of servers that I really care about. But I am often surprised that invitees did not grant me temporary access to their servers, which is actually a feature built directly into Discord and a convenient way that you can let someone into your various chats without giving them permanent an invitation that you will eventually have to withdraw.
To find it, simply click the invite button on your Discord server and a window will open that looks like this:
Click on that tiny “Edit Invitation Link” text at the bottom and this super-useful screen will open that allows you to customize the settings for the invitations you create.
Not only can you choose when your invite link expires – from minutes to hours, to full day or “never” – but you can also specify how many times the link can be used to bring someone into your Discord. server until it becomes invalid. And of course, you will see a large Grant Temporary Membership button. Turn it on and anyone who joins your Discord from that link will be automatically disconnected after being disabled.
In other words, this is the setting you’ll want to use if you need to talk to a group of people temporarily, but don’t want to have to deal with removing them from the Discord server when you’re done.
If, however, you used a regular link to bring people to your server, it will be easy to remove them. Just right click on their names in any channel and select the “Kik” option.
And if you were really lazy and you have a lot of people on Discord that you don’t want, right click on your server icon on the left side of the app, click on Server Settings and click on members . Then click on the red ” Clear ” link, which will allow you to delete everyone who hasn’t logged into your server at any point in the last seven or 30 days.
