Make Your Video Selfie Game With This Apple Watch Hack
For those of you who haven’t splurged on a more trendy setup for recording video at home yet, know that your smartphone camera (ideally combined with the best microphone you attach to your body) is good enough in most cases – the rear camera (s ), that is. The front camera is usually less powerful.
However, trying to set the camera to shoot yourself as if you were being photographed by a ghost is difficult. It usually takes a while back and forth to make sure you frame the shot correctly, and it can be annoying if you’re constantly changing places for your videos. However, today I noticed a clever Apple Watch hack on The Verge that completely solves this problem.
Before I get to that, yes, I know you can do the same with iPhones and iPads. In fact, I’ve always used the FiLMiC Remote app to mirror my iPhone’s screen to iPad so that I can see my settings in real time and customize the snapshot much faster. But if you have an Apple Watch, you can do the same without additional apps.
Raise your Apple Watch and launch the Camera app. That’s all. Your watch will receive a live stream of everything your connected iPhone can see. More importantly, you can switch to video mode on your iPhone to start filming whatever you want. And to complete the splendor, you can link your Apple Watch to your iPhone to attach the new viewfinder directly to the device you’ll be looking at:
If you want to switch your phone cameras, just tap the three dots icon in the lower right corner of your Apple Watch. You will then be able to choose whether you want to view and control your iPhone’s front or rear camera:
That’s all. All you need now is a ring light, a tripod, and the best microphone, and you’ll be ready to be the next influencer. And if you don’t have an Apple Watch or iPad to view your iPhone screen, there is always a classic approach: buy a cheap mirror and place it behind your iPhone to see what’s on the screen. Inelegant, of course, but effective.
