Is Your Honda Part of a Larger Review?
Remembers lettuce , although this is common these days, it really isn’t that much of a problem for the average consumer unless you’ve already swallowed a bed of infected romaine. Another dilemma is massive car recalls: if you are affected by one of them, you’ve probably paid thousands or signed a long-term lease for a car that could potentially put you or others at risk.
Unfortunately for the 1.4 million Honda owners in the United States, this is exactly what is happening. The automaker announced that it is recalling 1.4 million vehicles due to various mechanical and software issues, including cars produced over an 18-year period from 2002 to 2020. The announcement comes at a particularly unfortunate moment as the country is still grappling with the economic fallout from a rampant pandemic and winter weather threatening to make driving conditions more dangerous at the national level.
Here’s what you need to know about damaged vehicles and what you should do if you are driving one.
What is remembered
The review covers an extensive list of Honda models. Here’s the number of each specific model recalled on various issues, according to the Associated Press .
- 737,000 agreements from 2018 to 2020 were withdrawn stating that “a programming error in the control computer could cause the rear camera, turn signals and wipers to malfunction.”
- 430,000 hybrid vehicles 2012 Honda Civic, Honda Fit 2007-2014, Acura ILX 2013-2015 and Honda Accord 2013-2015. These reviews are for a faulty drive shaft that is prone to breakage due to corrosion – an issue that could portend disaster regardless of road conditions.
- 268,000 CR-Vs from 2002 to 2006 were recalled due to a malfunctioning power window switch, which could potentially cause a fire. As AP writes: “Water can enter the driver’s open window and cause a short circuit, possibly causing a fire. This is the second review for the same issue. The cars were recalled in October 2012, but the repairs did not go through. Honda says it has reported 16 fires, but no injuries. “
What are you supposed to do
First, an easy way to see if you’re stuck in this mess is to visit Honda’s recall website . By entering your vehicle identification number and model, you can quickly determine if your vehicle is one of the 1.4 million dangerous vehicles cruising American highways.
In addition, there is a waiting period that agonizingly prolongs the problem. In January and February, owners will be notified that their vehicles are ready for service at their local Honda dealership. January notices will be mailed to holders of agreements 2018-2020, analysts 2019 and 2020, and CRVs 2002-2006. Car owners with drive shaft issues will have to wait until February to receive an official message from Honda.
Fortunately, all recall services are free, but that doesn’t remove the initial worry about the car, which might not be all that safe on the road.
