Use These MS Paint-Inspired Retro Backgrounds for Your Next Virtual Meeting

Microsoft recently posted a new collection of MS Paint-themed virtual backgrounds on the Xbox Gear Store that you can use in Microsoft Teams, Skype, or any other video conferencing application. They make the perfect addition to any flashy outfit you plan to wear to (virtual) holiday parties this year.

The Holiday Collection is included in the Skype background library by default (you can download the latest from the Xbox Gear page above), but you’ll need to download the images to your computer and then manually import them if you want to use them in Teams. or other teleconferencing applications.

To do this, open the Xbox Gear Store link and then scroll down and download MS Paint Teams Backgrounds. Unzip the file to an easily accessible location on your computer. Launch any video conferencing application; If so, you will be able to upload your own images to use as a virtual background. For example, here’s how to use them in Microsoft Teams:

  1. Before joining the call, click the background effect icon, then click Add at the top of the Background Options menu.
  2. Find the file you want to use, then click Open to add it to the list of virtual backgrounds.

We also have tutorials on how to add custom backgrounds to Zoom and Google Meet if you prefer those apps.

If all that MS Paint nostalgia takes over, the third link on the Xbox Gear Store page is for a free Windows 95 app that mimics the old-school operating system on your modern Windows, macOS, or Linux computer. It includes many classic software, including the original version of MS Paint that you can launch and play (it also has a working Netscape browser and classic PC games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D ).

Download and install the correct version of the Windows 95 app for your operating system from the GitHub page. After installing it, the Windows 95 virtual desktop will appear in a new application window. Select Start> Programs> Accessories> Paint to open MS Paint and get started.
