Best Addons for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Launch Day
He’s finally here: World of Warcraft’s eighth expansion, Shadowlands , is coming out today. If you’ve never played, or are careful about re-entering the vast world, you still have the good old free experience up to level 20 to see if you enjoy WoW – which is one-third the maximum level you can reach in Shadowlands (not to mention what you can probably get over the weekend, if that’s the case).
Otherwise, for seasoned players, I hope you finished your last minute raids and Icecrown farming because you are running out of time until Shadowlands launches. All new content will arrive at 3:00 pm PT , Blizzard said.
You won’t have to dash madly at Blizzard’s servers during launch, as all of the new Shadowlands content that starts with a quest in your capital city of Stormwind or Orgrimmar, respectively, should magically appear when it’s time to leave. (And all other changes to quests, rewards, and other events that coincide with the launch of Shadowlands will also occur at different times today.)
Whether you’re waiting for hours in the digital city for the Shadowlands to begin (as I was), or slowly planning to return to WoW during Thanksgiving and beyond, I recommend getting to know a few of them again. the best and simplest add-ons you can use to make your virtual adventures so much easier.
WoW addons can help you manage your vast inventory, show you where to go if you’re feeling a little lost on quests, and even tell you where not to stand to avoid being lit up by the boss. There are so many add-ons out there that provide so much functionality that it can be difficult at first glance to figure out what to install. To help, I’ve put together what I think is a fairly detailed list of add-ons that should get you back into the game without feeling as overwhelmed as the adventurer in the new 20-man raid.
Step one: install a great addon manager
You will want to use an add-on manager to help you find, install, and update add-ons. You can, of course, install add-ons manually, but using the application is a thousand times easier. A great app also helps ensure that your add-ons are updated with the latest features and fixes, which is especially important when something in an upcoming expansion (or any upcoming Blizzard update) breaks your favorite third-party helpers.
There are tons of great tutorials and databases you can use to find the best addon manager for you. If you need a quick response, I recommend Ajour with all my heart. It is an open source application that downloads as a single executable file – nothing to install and no bullshit to do (except your browser suggesting it might be a malicious file, which I noticed in Edge Chromium).
First, park Ajour in any folder and launch it – no matter where. Tell the app where your World of Warcraft add-ons folder is located (for example, [wherever you install WoW] \ World of Warcraft \ _retail_ \ Interface if you play both WoW and WoW Classic). Then head to the store for add-ons by clicking the handy Catalog link in the upper left corner:
What add-ons should I install to easily return to World of Warcraft? Let’s start.
