How to Determine the Burning Time of a Candle
With fewer in-person holiday gatherings and must-have gifts this year, you may not be getting your normal supply of candles. And if you do store and use those gifted candles (instead of passing them on to the next person you should buy a generic gift for), you may need to restock your supply.
But aside from grabbing one candle and sniffing it in the store – or choosing a candle by its name when shopping online – how do you know which ones to buy? If you are looking for the best value for money, you should take a look at candle burning times. Here’s how to do it.
What you need to know about burning time
When shopping for candles, it can seem like choosing a candle based on its size is a way to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck. But as lifestyle blogger Adrien Davidson recently pointed out on TikTok, size doesn’t really matter. Instead of ounces, she said, we should check the candle burning time, that is, the number of hours it will burn until it burns out completely.
For example, Davidson compares the $ 30 Capri Blue candle to the $ 25 Bath & Body Works candle . Yes, the Bath & Body Works candle is $ 5 cheaper, but it has a burn time of up to 45 hours. On the other hand, the Capri Blue candle has a burning time of up to 85 hours, which makes it significantly more beneficial.
To find out the burning time of a candle, simply turn it over and check the label at the bottom – it should be there. If not, then google the brand and name of the candle (and size, if applicable) and “burn time” and find it like this.
“Obviously burn time isn’t the only thing that makes a great candle,” Davidson says. “Some candles will be stronger than others, and some may smell like you. But this is something to consider if you feel like you are constantly changing candles, or if you are trying to decide whether to buy a fashionable one. “
