Use These Flashcards Apps to Make Your Study Session Less Analogous

Flashcards are a favorite teaching method, allowing you to learn a large amount of material and then filter out the parts you already know. But writing hundreds of index cards and carrying them with you so that they are always at hand when you have a few minutes to look at them is a pain. Luckily, as with so many other aspects of life, there are apps out there that let you do this more efficiently, without paper. Here are some of our favorites.

StudyBlue

StudyBlue allows you to crowdsource your flashcards from others who have created flashcards on similar topics. You can find and create groups where you can share relevant flashcards with people studying the same subject. The app allows you to add images and audio to flashcards, check yourself and set study reminders. The app is free to use.

Quizlet

Quizlet is one of the largest online card websites. Their app syncs with their website, allowing you to explore flashcards from your phone. It is easy to navigate and has a simple and straightforward design. You can study your flashcards by playing games, doing quizzes, or simply looking at a set of flashcards. Quizlet Learn creates a curriculum based on the timeline you set. Like StudyBlue, you can upgrade the app’s features by paying for Quizlet Go, which lets you study offline and removes app ads. Quizlet Plus, which includes more options for personalizing your learning and charting your progress, costs $ 47.99 per year. Both paid tiers offer a 7-day free trial.

StudyStack

StudyStack makes flashcards easy to use. With the app, you can learn by playing crosswords, executioner, matching games, hungry beetle (snake-like game), decryption and others. When you play games, you get pieces of the pie indicating your progress. As with other apps, you can search for other sets of cards, check yourself, and interact with cards. But unlike other apps, each card can have more than two sides. The experience lacks refinement, but it makes up for in creative features – and it’s free.

Brain landscape

Brainscape was only for cards: there are no fancy features like quizzes or games, but Brainscape focuses on strategies to help you find out the information on your cards in no time. The app claims to be able to double your learning rate by adjusting the time for each card based on how well you know the topic. He has also collaborated with educators and publishers to create flashcards on a variety of topics and provide new information on each topic. Some card packs are free, but many require a paid subscription. Prices start at $ 9.99 per month, with rates of $ 41.99 per semester, $ 59.99 per year, or $ 129.99 for a lifetime subscription.

Research

Research is the perfect app for people who take notes on their laptop and want to easily turn them into flashcards. In particular, it allows you to organize your cards into piles (collections of cards) and groups (collections of piles or groups). This is useful because you can customize your study sessions with different groups of notes. For example, you can view all of your cards at once, a group of cards, or an individual set. In its desktop app, you can add tags to your cards and view statistics about your learning session, including how long you are likely to remember the information on the cards. However, there is no free tier or free trial; you’ll need to shell out $ 4.99 to try it ($ 24.99 if you want to use it on your Mac).

AnkiApp

AnkiApp is another easy-to-navigate card app. At the end of each study session, he collects data on how well you know each card, and uses this data to later determine which cards to use for the quiz. You can use other people’s cards or make your own with sound, text and photos. AnkiApp Unlimited offers access to additional learning analytics and syncs your classes across devices; it will cost you $ 9.99 per year or a one-time purchase for $ 24.99.
