Use This “election Distraction” to Deal With Your Nervous Energy.
Election day will be in two days. With so many people voting early – both in person and by mail – it’s unclear what Tuesday will look like at the polls, but whether you are in line or not, you may be faced with a lot of nervous energy. To help with that, the New York Times has put together a Choice Agent, full of images, videos, and soundscapes, to take you (or at least your mind) somewhere other than November 2020, even for a few minutes. This is how it works.
How to use the “Electoral Agent”
It opens with close-ups, alternating shots of white grapes and avocados rotating slowly under the names of the people involved in the creation of this package / tool. It’s easy to just stay here, gaze at the fruit, and listen to a song that sounds a bit like a lullaby on repeat.
From there, who knows where you end up because the sentences vary. If you’re not entirely sure what you are seeing or what to do about it, see the hint in the upper left corner of the screen. After a while, I discovered the following:
- Woman preparing an easy recipe for decadent hot chocolate
- Megan Stalter’s animated conversation in which a giraffe breaks up with a dog (because the dog is addicted to work).
- Video footage of an insidious bird on a beach in Mexico
- GIF image with shapes that can be used as breathing exercise
- A moment of calm in the form of a video of bees sweeping through yellow flowers.
- Time-lapse video of growing a plant , but only when you press and then hold the screen to pop up a little watering
- The picture is a close-up where Ikechukwu Ufomadu sings something like some version of yodelling
And there is still a lot to discover and distract you from what will happen in the next few days / weeks / months.
