Why Do You Need a Travel Agent (Sometimes)
While we may not travel much now, someday (hopefully) we will be able to safely board planes and visit other states and countries with some regularity. Before the pandemic, you may never have thought twice about using sites like Kayak or Expedia, or simply googling to arrange your own trip or find a bargain. But dealing with restrictions before and after COVID can be trickier, which may explain why travel agencies are seeing more demand for their services.
Travel agents have a wealth of industry experience and knowledge. They can not only plan your route, but they can also help you find great deals and protect you when things go wrong. And their services are often free to use – some are paid for by the providers, while others may charge a fee that is deducted from the cost of your trip.
So should you use a travel agent? And if so, when?
- You are traveling at the last minute . If you have limited time to get your plans in order, a travel agent can take care of the details in no time.
- You are traveling to a remote location . Travel agents have experience and connections, so they can spot details you might not have guessed.
- You are planning a difficult or expensive route . If you are going to a new location and do not know where to start planning, a travel agent can help you. Likewise, if you are losing a ton of money on your trip, the travel agent can make sure you get the most bang for your buck.
- You are traveling in a large group . Self-booking tickets, tours and transportation can be difficult – this is what travel agents specialize in.
- You are going on a cruise . We may never cruise again, but if you do, travel agent relationships with cruise lines can be of great benefit to you.
- You need help overcoming travel restrictions . This applies to COVID, but it is also helpful to have guidance when you are dealing with visas and other entry requirements.
Chances are, travel agents shouldn’t get stuck if all you do is book a domestic flight and rent a car. Likewise, if you are heading to a place where you have been before or which is easy to reach. But if you are looking for something special or profitable, a travel agent can help you.
