Fix Your Apple Watch Battery Problems With This New Update
Update 10/14/20: Apple has released watchOS 7.0.2, which will hopefully take care of the unexpected battery drain some Apple Watch users have been seeing lately. If you’ve previously upgraded to watchOS 7 and found that your Apple Watch was struggling to survive, you are likely encountering an unknown bug that Apple discovered in early October.
As Apple’s release notes say:
watchOS 7.0.2 contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
– Addresses an issue that could cause the battery to drain faster.
– Addresses an issue that prevented some users from accessing the ECG app in the regions where it is available.
You can update your Apple Watch by opening the Watch app on the connected iPhone, clicking General and clicking Software Update. Make sure your Apple Watch is on its charger and within a reasonable distance from your iPhone so you can install the update without any problems. Once that is complete, your Apple Watch’s battery life will hopefully revert back to pre-watchOS 7.
The original story follows from this: We never said that upgrading to a new operating system was an ideal process. In fact, you can do things right and still run into problems on your generally harmless smartphone, tablet, or watch. Make every backup in the world and you might still run into bugs or cryptic issues when updating your operating system – and there might be no turning back.
At least that’s what happens to an unknown number of Apple Watch owners who have reported some unusual issues after upgrading to iOS 14 and subsequently watchOS 7. These range from annoying ones like the Apple Watch not being able to record your workout on outdoors using GPS. to problematic ones, for example, the Apple Watch suffers from reduced battery life for no obvious reason.
Apple has posted a detailed list of potential issues worth reading if your Apple Watch is behaving strangely after your recent update:
- Workout route maps are missing from the Fitness app on iPhone for previous GPS-enabled workouts on Apple Watch.
- Activity apps, Heart Rate apps, or other health-related apps can’t launch or download data to your Apple Watch.
- The Fitness or Health app won’t launch or download data to your iPhone.
- The Health or Fitness app reports an inaccurate amount of data on your iPhone.
- The Activity app reports inaccurate storage space on the Apple Watch.
- Ambient sound level data or headphone sound level data with Apple Watch is missing from the Health app on iPhone.
- Increased battery drain on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
Fortunately, Apple’s approved solution to these problems is simple. Start by opening the Watch app on your iPhone, then tap All Watches in the upper left corner, tap the i next to Apple Watch, and tap Unpair Apple Watch .
Your phone needs to back up your watch before starting the unpairing process, which naturally resets the clock, so you then use that backup to restore what you had before.
Apple also suggests that if that doesn’t work, you can try the nuclear approach on your iPhone: erase all settings. It sounds a little big, but it’s an option if your Apple Watch issues remain unresolved. Make sure you take a fresh backup of your iPhone before the big erase, which you can do by connecting your iPhone to your computer and opening Finder (or iTunes, on Windows) or using the much simpler iCloud method to back up. …
When you are ready, open the application “Settings”, click “General”, scroll down a little to press the “Reset” and click “Erase All Content and Settings.” After your iPhone finishes self-cleaning, you can restore the data from the backup. And if that doesn’t fix the issues with your Apple Watch, it might be time to talk to a genius .
