What’s Coming to Netflix in October 2020
In Before the Times, when you could just go see a movie in the theater without first warning your next of kin, October marked the start of the Prestige film season, the time of year when studios released what they thought were the best films. a chance to receive huge critical attention and awards. And while cinemas aren’t really that popular right now (or at least they shouldn’t be ) and the Oscar season is confused , Netflix treats this month like it still matters, discarding a few “serious” films. from famous filmmakers.
The most timely and high-profile is probably Chicago Trial 7 (October 16) from screenwriter / director Aaron Sorkin – creator of West Wing and screenwriter behind magnets like The Social Network, A Few Good Guys and Manibol “. … The film examines the aftermath of protests during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, during which demonstrators were arrested and later charged with inciting riot. (I don’t know why this movie might resonate today? Emoticons, I think.)
The screenwriter has been working on the project since 2006, and over the years several directors have participated in its work, including Steven Spielberg and Paul Greengrass. Sorkin took over the reins after receiving a good announcement for Molly’s Game , its 2017 feature-length debut. An impressive cast – Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Mark Rylance, Michael Keaton, and probably a few women who will nod as the men read them speeches. Here’s the trailer:
Also worth noticing is Rebecca (October 21), based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier and possibly a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 film, the sole Oscar winner for Best Picture in Master of Suspense. Directed by British filmmaker Ben Wheatley, psychological thriller and romance stars Lily James, Armie Hammer and Christine Scott Thomas, thetrailer suggests it would be great if nothing else. If you’re looking for some traditional October food, there are plenty of fresh materials on offer for the spooky season, including The Haunting of Bly Manor , scriptwriter / director Mike Flanagan’s sequel to 2018 Haunting of the Hill ; The second season of the Haunted House anthologylooks intimidating . I’m also intrigued by The Nanny’s Guide to Monster Hunt , a horror comedy in the Ghostbusters of Vienna (Ivan Reitman is the producer) starring Harry Potter Tom Felton and Pose ‘s Indya Moore; and Vampires Against the Bronx , in which a group of teenagers defend their neighborhood against blood-sucking invaders (isn’t that an allegory of gentrification, right?)
Other notable strimingovye premieres the sixth season of the recent winners of the contest “Emmy» Schitt’s Creek; Social Distance is another of the more recent fictional shows created throughout the time period; and Song Exploder , an original series based on the popular Anatomy of a Song podcast.
