Top Hurricane Tips From Real Florida Residents

As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse, this year we may see more powerful hurricanes hitting land . Since these storms can hit some areas that would not otherwise be hurricanes, here are some tips from our in-house storm experts: Florida.

As a Florida native, I have experienced countless hurricanes, tropical storms, and tropical depressions. Now that I live in New York, I am always shocked by the number of people rushing to the butcher’s before the big storm. (Don’t buy raw meat! It will be bad if you lose power! You northeastern fools!)

The main idea to keep in mind is that you can be without electricity, Wi-Fi, or drinking water for days or weeks after a storm, so be sure to bring some money, batteries, bottled water, and canned food (with a manual canning knife).

You also need to make sure that nothing outside of your home can become a high speed projectile in the wind, so bring all your garden furniture inside, close your windows, and throw heavy objects into the pool if you have one.

Then all you need are books, lanterns, and a blanket fort to survive the worst. For all of these tips and more, watch the video above.
