After a four-month delay due to COVID-19, the 146th Kentucky Derby will take place this weekend, Saturday, September 5. Unlike other sporting events that last for hours, the derby itself, known as the “ greatest” two minutes of sport , is pretty short. And while watching miniature men galloping fast on horseback for a few minutes is, of course, technically the highlight, it’s just one part of the Kentucky Derby.
Of course, due to the pandemic, there will be no spectators present on site looking chic in their trendy hats. But like so many other cultural events over the past seven months, many of the festivities around the Kentucky Derby will be held virtually to keep everyone safe in their homes. These events began today, but the real events will begin tomorrow, and the main event will take place on Saturday. Here’s how to watch the Kentucky Derby itself, as well as other events.
How to watch the real race

The good news is that you don’t need cable because the derbies and many other Saturday events will be streamed on NBC (this is a regular network that you, at least hypothetically, can get through any digital box).

NBC coverage begins at 2:30 pm ET, but the two-minute race itself will continue for several more hours, with riders expected to mount at 6:30 pm ET and the race will begin around 7:00 am. evenings
