What’s New on Netflix This Week of Aug 9, 2020
This week’s line of new Netflix Originals includes a study of contrasts: a series of papers exploring controversial wellness treatments – think tantra, bee venom therapy, starvation diets – and an action movie about an experimental new drug that gives people legitimate superpowers. (Un) Well is an investigative series from producers Frontline , The Zoo (which takes place behind the scenes of the Bronx Zoo) and The Circus: Inside the Greatest Polit Show on Earth , which details the inner workings of the Trump campaign. and administration. This latest entry seems to be hinting at what you can expect from this new project, if thetrailer is any indication; When the first words you hear sound like “The bees are my doctor,” you can probably be sure you are not getting a fair and balanced account of the lucrative and fantastic wellness industry.
Also criticizes the apparently terrific and life-changing medicine: Project Power , in which Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt team up to pursue the unscrupulous creators of a drug that gives consumers unpredictable superhuman abilities (which happen to mimic the abilities of various popular superheroes, but not so much to infringe on any copyrights), at least five minutes. And sometimes, as someone seriously hums, “one blow can kill you.” It looks like Fox’s missing, possibly kidnapped daughter somehow invented the formula for this medicine. Itself? Okay. The trailer looks a bit low-budget, which is the norm for higher-concept Netflix originals like Bright and The Old Guard , but if you can get past the ‘premium cable’ look, it will seem distracting and at least as open as (Not) Well about the merits of ingesting untested substances that are marketed as life-changing miracle drugs.
