What’s New on Netflix This Week of Aug 2, 2020

In Stephen King’s IT, a curse of sorts lies on the city of Derry, Maine. Every 27 years, Pennywise’s demonic spirit returns to town and hunts down his children. It turns out that the same curse hangs over Hollywood, but instead of literally returning the demon to devour the souls of children, it is a figurative demon devouring the souls of budding actors and using their youthful energy to remake the 2000 Cheerleader movie. Bring it on. Of course this demon is smart. He doesn’t want you to realize that Bring It On is being remade – until it’s too late. Most recently in 2012, he turned acrobatic cheerleaders into a cappella singers; that ‘s how Pitch Perfect hit the world, and now we shuddered with horror as its sequels became more profitable and, conversely, less enjoyable. The beast rises again this week. Due to the pandemic, our cinematic palaces were overshadowed by the pandemic, so he was forced to direct his All-Seeing Eye to Netflix, where he appears on Friday called Work It , a film that seems to be about a determined young woman forming a champion dance team, so she can include it in her college applications and go to Ivy League school. But don’t be fooled. This will succeed again. (But not going through with it; that’s different.)

It’s a curse and it’s added to your turn.

All this has been brought before. All this will be brought again.
