Install Android 11 Beta 2 to Navigate With New Gestures and More
Android 11 beta 2 is here. This means that we are only one beta from the Release Preview, also known as “the beta you want to get if you want to try new features in the most stable environment.” From there we will move on to the final version of Android 11. So close!
If you’ve previously registered yourself at an earlier stage of the Android 11 beta, I highly recommend that you check your device’s settings for a system update today. (And if you want to take your first steps in beta today, it’s easy to set up !)
Once you’ve done that and installed the latest beta – it shouldn’t take long to download – you’ll want to know about a few new features. The most important of these is the new navigation gesture, which makes Android’s gesture navigation a little more enjoyable.
If you have a lot of home screens because you are the superuser, you can now swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the main screen (same as before by tapping on the virtual screen). home button in two- or three-button navigation).
Two other key gestures remain the same: swiping up anywhere on the screen opens the app drawer, and swiping up from the bottom of the device launches an Android view of the most recently open apps. Light.
Other Android 11 beta 2 updates worth knowing about include:
- Screen Recorder now allows you to record the sound of your Android in addition to video of what you are doing.
- The redesigned Android 11 media player is now the default in your notification bar; previously you had to enable the developer option to unlock it
- Google cleans up the Android sharing sheet a bit. If the app previously offered you multiple sharing options, they will now be hidden under the app icon. You will click on that to expand the options menu and then click on the option you want.
- Now you can edit the settings for conversations in applications – another type of notification – in the dedicated section “Settings”> “Apps & notifications”. First, you need to configure the settings to display app conversation notifications here, which you do by pressing and holding any of these notifications after swiping down from the top of the Android screen.
- New restrictions on picture-in-picture windows – thanks Google – mean you won’t be able to enlarge your tiny videos to the same size as before.
