You Can Cook Wafer Onion Rings Straight From the Freezer
Onion ring lovers once in their lives bit off an onion ring only to have the onion slice slip out of their crispy house. This isn’t the worst thing that can happen, but it’s rather frustrating as the soft onions and fried dough need to be eaten together . When you harvest waffle onion rings, this problem is a thing of the past.
Initially, I did not waffle frozen onion rings because I thought it would solve the problem of onion ring slippage; I did this because I needed five onion rings and didn’t want to turn on the oven to bake five frozen onion rings. But then, as I ate my five onion rings, I noticed that the onion remained in place, and oh my friends, I was really happy .
Not only does the onion stay in place, but the onion rings are very crispy thanks to the hot grooved waffle iron plates. Plus, they’re a little flatter, which means you can fit more into your burger if you’re the type of person who puts onion rings on hamburgers; but they are also split, which means they contain more dipping sauce. But most importantly, waffle onion rings means you can accidentally eat a couple of onion rings, on a whim, in minutes, without having to heat up any kind of oven.
Simply turn the waffle iron to the middle level, drop in a few onion rings and press down gently with the top iron until the rings are thawed and soft, allowing you to completely close the waffle iron. Cook for a couple of minutes, until the onion rings are dark golden brown. Get out of the waffle iron – chopsticks are great for pulling items out of grooves – then enjoy rings free of the tyranny of the sliding bow.
