What’s New on Netflix in the Week of July 5, 2020

Two of Netflix’s busiest summer debuts will both take place on July 10, after which the streaming service’s audience will split into two camps: those supporting The Old Guard , a new concept action thriller starring Charlize Theron based on the acclaimed comic book. ; and those who are anxious to know why Zac Efron was looking at these bees .

(Of course, this ignores the existence of a third camp – viewers who don’t give a damn about any of these things; they may still be watching the stateless series, a miniseries about the Australian immigration system starring Cate Blanchett, which falls on July 8 .)

I would have expected to be in a former camp, generally inclined towards adapting graphic novels, but thetrailer for The Old Guard looks a little darker than I would prefer from my films about immortal warriors. But I also probably not going to watchthe show on thetravel “on the ground with Zac Efron” , even if it means that I’m behind on my memes for a week or two.

The real problem, I suspect, is that watching action movies on comics at home in the summer will only remind me that I can’t watch it in the theater as often as watching Zac Efron “[search] for healthy, sustainable ways to live.” when traveling around the globe will remind me that I will never get on a plane again. It turns out that I am secretly in the fourth camp: grown men are trying to convince their wives that they have heard “Baby”. The babysitting club is pretty good .
