Let Your Kids Sleep on Video With Their Friends
Kids are now missing out on a lot of traditional social interactions with their friends, but we’re also pretty good at identifying pandemic variations on classics. “It’s better than nothing” should be the universal mantra by now, so I recommend that you allow your kids to have video sleepovers with your friends.
I can’t believe the idea – it comes from Lifehacker commentator Andrew , who says he limits his daughter’s screen time for a week, but loosen up the reins on weekends:
On Friday [or Saturday] evenings, she can arrange an overnight video chat with a friend, where she is allowed to stay up until she wants to chat / play / do art with a friend as she cannot. personally.
Set up a cocky tent (like the one in the picture) and coordinate with other parents so the kids can eat the same dinner together, like pizza or snacks like popcorn. Take a walk and let them have sodas! It’s a party!
To pass the time, they can play board games together, watch the same movie, build something in the same Minecraft world, or just have fun and chat like a kid sleeping overnight.
However, if you want this to be successful, you should think of it as a real sleepover, not just another Zoom call. Apply as few rules as possible and let them stay awake for as long as they want. Tomorrow they will be tired, but they still have nowhere to be.
