Should I Wash My Underwear in a Salad Bowl?
If you don’t have a laundry room, it may be difficult to find clean underwear between laundry visits.
That’s why we were intrigued by this post from Self.com , in which the author talks poetically about washing lingerie in a salad machine. Now the main role of the salad spinner is to dry the salad greens using centrifugal (or centripetal? I’m not a scientist) force.
Equipped only with a salad spinner and an item to be washed (Abu and I felt it was best to rid viewers of our dirty underwear images), we tried to see how well the salad spinner acts as a near-washing machine.
The steps outlined in the original post are to first squeeze the laundry in water with some detergent added, then replace it with clean water for a “rinse cycle,” then squeeze it a few times to dry the garment as best as possible. We were confident that we were using less detergent than we thought, as over-soaping is a common mistake that causes clothes to become faded, loose and stretched.
So did the salad machine wash our clothes correctly? Watch the full Hack or Wack issue above to find out.
