Quickly Remove Backgrounds From Your Images With This App
iOS: It is easy to find guides on blurring or removing background images on the web, but almost all of them require a desktop computer and image editing software. However, iOS users can do this right on their phones using the PhotoRoom app.
The app automatically blurs the background, so you can get the effect of portrait mode even on devices that usually don’t have this feature. It also allows you to completely crop the background and replace it with other images, almost like a green screen. Custom backgrounds can actually look pretty convincing thanks to the app’s built-in tools for adjusting shadows and adding other graphics – things you usually use Photoshop or GIMP for – and PhotoRoom is much easier to use.
PhotoRoom is available for free on the iOS store , an Android version and a web app are also in development. Images edited with the free version will show the watermark logo, but you can remove it by upgrading to the premium version for $ 9.49 / month or $ 46.99 / year.
How to use PhotoRoom
- Open the PhotoRoom app to take a photo. Use the onscreen guides to align the object you want to keep in focus. The buttons on the right side let you choose between different background edits, including blurring it or completely cropping the background and replacing it with preloaded images.
- Take a photo and the app takes care of the background editing.
- In the editor, add and manipulate shadows under the in-focus objects, and make any necessary changes to the background.
- When you’re done editing, save the photo. It is now ready to download or share through other applications.
