Use Sweetened Grain Milk As Coffee Cream

Two months after my kids’ schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, I feel free to say that the challenges of managing work from home while homeschooling a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old has taken a toll on our parenting. routine. I am a little ashamed, however, about what it means to ingest my offspring about Lucky Charms. In Before Times, candied grains were, if not completely banned in our home, then certainly were sometimes food. Our kids were content with a quick, high-protein breakfast: a bowl of oatmeal. A slice of toast spread with peanut butter. Hard boiled egg. They pleaded and pleaded for super-sweet alternatives on every ride down the cereal aisle, but we always stood firm – until my wife grabbed four boxes of $ 2 marshmallow in a panic with grocery delivery at the start of closing, and that all changed.

It turns out my kids find unhealthy cereals as satisfying as I do – after all, as a kid in the 80s, I grew up in an era where every new toy craze or TV show was probably almost inedible. but definitely the sugar flakes in tow and I managed to convince my parents to buy all of them (or generic copies of them). We’ve reached a point where my son, who once preferred plain oatmeal to sweetened foods, will regularly throw himself on the floor in silent protest if his bowl doesn’t contain enough dried marshmallows. However, to our weak parenting: I discovered a new way to drink coffee. It came in yet another moment of despair over the outage: unable to take a seat to deliver groceries, we ran out of both cream and white sugar and dangerously low on milk. Sometimes I drink my black coffee, but this particular cup of tea was also … not my favorite brand, so to speak. One morning, trying to figure out a way to make it more appetizing, I looked at the pink milk remaining in one of the children’s breakfast bowls and thought … why not?

It turns out that sweetened grain milk (in this case, a combination of 2% milk and leftover Marshmallow Mateys bowl) is a perfectly valid alternative to things you probably really want to add to your coffee. This drink took care of the lingering aftertaste of the cereals, although I also assume that you can smell a hint of mocha from the wreckage of a bowl with layers of cocoa. Just use a spoon (or sieve) to peel off any floating pieces of cereal first, then add the cereal milk to your mug to taste. I am not suggesting that you do this every day, and there are many other alternatives to cream. you probably want to try it first . (I’m a big fan of condensed milk.) But we live in strange times.
