What Opens and Closes on Memorial Day 2020
Monday – Memorial Day. Although all the days can now merge together, this day is a federal holiday, which means that some places may be closed, which has usually been the case recently.
Depending on where you live, some places that traditionally may be open on Memorial Day, or that are open in other cities and towns, may also be closed all day. When in doubt, it is always a good idea to call ahead or check the website of a store or restaurant.
Here’s a general overview of what’s open and closed:
Closed
Again, what is open and closed differs depending on where you live, but businesses that are run by the state or federal government are almost all closed for the day, as are businesses such as banks that do business with government agencies. They are definitely closed today:
- Stock market
- banks
- Courts
- Libraries
- USPS
- FedEx (except FedEx Custom Critical)
- UPS (except UPS Express Critical)
- Public Schools
Local businesses will independently decide whether to open or not. One of the major chains we know that will close on Monday is Costco. Again, if in doubt, call first.
Open
Most stores that are allowed to open on Memorial Day are likely to be both to recoup some of the money they lost when they were closed and to potentially hold Memorial Day sales, although some may be open during different hours. …
Memorial Day is often a big day of sales, especially for department stores. Keep in mind that many of these sales can be used online, so you don’t have to rush to shop in person to get a great deal.
