How to Be a Parent During a Pandemic

I have found that there is an ebb and flow in parenting during a pandemic. This was repeated in my own home, as well as in my social media feeds, and it sounded like this: “Oh, kids sit too much on screens! They need more educational activities, more learning opportunities, more structure … damn I’m tired and can’t do anything … whatever, go out on screens, it won’t kill you. ” And I will repeat myself.

The problem is, right now, it doesn’t seem like there is a winning way in parenting. So we asked Lindsay Powers , author of ” You can not fuck her children” : “How can a parent during a pandemic, not to hurt their children?”

In the video above, Powers offers parents practical, encouraging advice, such as focusing more on life skills rather than math worksheets, trying to balance screen time during the week rather than every day, and allow yourself not to be martyred right now.
