Highlights from this week’s series

From an interview with Samantha Irby

As a rule, no. 1 being inside all the time:

I think my biggest advice is to clean up. And I don’t look like a neat freak, don’t get me wrong. But even if you just grab all the rubbish and piles of rubbish in your house and put them in a lid-proof item, you will be much better off being at home when you are not surrounded by your own clutter.

On the challenges of promoting your book during a pandemic:

I don’t think anyone was ready for the [remote book tour] because, for example, figuring out how to download all sorts of apps and navigate to websites I’ve never heard of and trying to love the record … one thing the place was like, “We need you to buy a microphone.” And I thought, “People cannot get medicine. Do you think I’ll find a microphone for this interview somehow ?? “

On the unexpected things she overlooks during physical distancing:

I miss the bookstore and look at books or any other store and look at things that maybe I’ll buy going through Target … So now that I can’t do any of this, I feel like I stole a thing that I might not even do. It’s like, “Oh, I would go grocery shopping, but not today.” So as much as I love it, I still feel like my mom told me that I was grounded or something, and I can’t do something that I probably wouldn’t have done anyway. But now that I can’t, every day I am like that, you know what? I need six Starbucks.

To learn more about Sam’s self-isolation experience, we highly recommend listening to the entire episode.

And as promised in the episode, Alice’s blind outline drawings:

What is blind contour drawing and why do one too? Here’s a good explanation.
