Block Ads and Tracking With Vivaldi’s New Built-in Browser Settings
The developers of the Vivaldi web browser enhance its already strong privacy features with built-in content blocking fees that block ads and prevent trackers from collecting information about your views.
Content blocking is almost a necessity for web browsers these days. Blocking ads, trackers, and even cookies can help keep your online privacy, reduce annoying ads that spoil your site, and even speed up page load times. Until the last patch, Vivaldi users had to rely on third-party add-ons to get full protection, but now the browser can handle ad and tracker blocking on its own.
You can quickly enable the new Vivaldi settings by clicking the shield icon to the right of the URL bar and then selecting the blocking option you want to enable. “Block trackers” will stop any trackers recognized by the browser, and “Block ads and trackers” is an extra step and removes all ads from the pages you visit.
By default, the browser is set to No Block , but even this setting can be supplemented with additional privacy features such as preventing malware-infected pop-ups or blocking all essential cookies by clicking the Manage Default Settings button below the URL … screen and go to Settings> Privacy.
While we did not extensively test the new content blockers, we found that blocking both ads and trackers performed well in general. If you’re being prevented from turning on ads for your site, it’s easy to change the settings using the aforementioned shield icon.
Blocked trackers will be listed in your browser’s privacy settings. Both privacy options are based on a blacklist from the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials browser extension and will be updated whenever new trackers are added to this list. You can also redouble your efforts by turning on the EasyPrivacy blacklist under Settings> Privacy> Manage Sources.
While Brave is still probably your best bet for blocking ads, Safari still has the edge when it comes to blocking third-party trackers, and add-ons like Ghostery or uBlock Origin are good ways to boost privacy in Firefox , the new Vivaldi. the built-in tools make it a great choice if you want a more traditional Chrome-like experience on Windows with robust privacy controls and content blocking out of the box.
The new content blocking features will only be available to users using Vivaldi version 3.0 or higher. Go to Settings> Updates to update to the latest build, or download and install it here .
