Everything GitHub Users Get for Free Right Now
The free GitHub user accounts have been updated in the best possible way: the online software development platform dropped from its $ 7 / month Pro tier, dividing the package’s functionality between the free tier and the previously more expensive Team tier. This means that there are several new features now available to free GitHub users (and “team” accounts are now cheaper, too).
Here’s everything that goes into the free GitHub account under the new pricing structure:
Previously available:
- Unlimited public or private repos.
- 500 MB of storage for private repositories.
- Automatic security updates for GitHub.
- 2,000 free minutes of action on GitHub per month. Minutes of action let you automate certain parts of your workflow through GitHub, such as testing multiple builds at the same time. Public repositories include unlimited GitHub actions, but private repository actions are billed by the minute .
New additions:
- Unlimited access to the private repository. GitHub began allowing free users to privately post their code to the service about a year ago , but has limited the number of contributors to a project to three users per repository. However, with the new pricing changes, free users are no longer bound by these restrictions and can include as many private repository contributors as they wish.
- Cheaper, entry-level paid tier: Access to the GitHub Team tier , which increases your monthly GitHub action minutes to 3,000, your private repository storage to 3GB, and gives you access to other advanced features like personalized support, now costs $ 4 per user for each month instead of $ 7.
Anyone interested in the GitHub service can join for free . Users with an existing account should have access to the new features right now.
