Damn It, We Were Sweating Until the Old Days
This month’s theme is workout that makes us smile, so this week I asked all of you to join me and watch Richard Simmons’ video . If you haven’t had a chance to do this yet, justclick here and wait 10 minutes. Or just do the first half.
This is not exactly the same as what you may remember from your grandmother’s videotapes. The ten minute playlist is basically a warm-up. This is mainly stretching and occasional dumbbell workouts. But when you get a good song to dance to, it’s fun . (This video is great if you want to dance to the music.)
This experience got me thinking about home workouts in general. Before YouTube, you couldn’t train differently every day if you hadn’t amassed a huge video library. You will probably have the same handful of tapes or DVDs and switch between them. You would recognize every dance. You would have mastered the moves. You would know exactly when Simmons will say, “Are you proud of yourself? I’m proud of you. ”Getting in and out of a playlist full of warm up is not the same thing.
However, I’m glad I did it. And you?
Okay, here’s what’s next. We’ll be back in 2020 and do one of these Instagram Live workouts with Ryan Heffington. These weekends are held at noon California time (this is 3:00 pm for the East Coast) and there are usually sessions throughout the week. “Bring the props,” he says.
