Launch Disney + Faster by Installing It As a Progressive Web App
If you watch Disney + a lot on Windows or macOS, consider setting the website as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for quicker access to your favorite movies and shows.
PWAs share the difference between a website and a full-fledged application . Installing Disney + as a PWA creates a convenient desktop shortcut for the offline version of the website. When launched, the PWA will not only bypass your browser’s home page and remove most of its user interface, but it will also run with improved speed and stability over traditional browsing methods.
What’s more, since PWAs are web apps, installation will take up negligible space on your PC and are incredibly easy to implement, even though we were most successful in installing Disney + as a PWA via Edge Chromium . In theory, other browsers like Google Chrome could also support streaming service as a PWA, but that doesn’t exist right now – at least not with implementations even close to those as elegant as Edge Chromium.
Luckily, you can install Disney + PWA via Edge Chromium without changing your default browser if you don’t want to. Disney + still loads into Edge Chromium when you double-click the new shortcut, but it won’t affect your other settings. you can still use Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or whatever you like for your everyday driving. (For reference, Edge Chromium isn’t bad if you’re looking after newer browsers.)
How to install Disney + as a PWA on Windows.
- Open disneyplus.com under the Edge Chromium tab.
- Sign in to your Disney + profile.
- Click “…” in the upper right corner of your browser to open the Edge menu.
- Go to Applications> Install this site as an application.
- Enter a name for the app shortcut – it can be anything.
- Click Install. The installation should complete almost instantly.
After installing the PWA, you will have a Disney + shortcut on your desktop that you can pin to the taskbar or Start menu if you like. Double-click your desktop shortcut to launch directly to the Disney + home page and start streaming – and be sure to check out our monthly Disney + News roundup if you need something new to watch when you get there.
While you are doing this, take a few moments to secure your Disney + account’s security settings .
