Cherry Tomatoes Are the Perfect Tomato Right Now
Given that the goal right now is to stay inside, some people have developed a bunker-type mentality, spending most of their grocery budget on canned, frozen, or dried foods. Because of the limited shelf life, fresh produce isn’t much of a love these days, but the next time you visit a store that sells it, I highly recommend grabbing a couple of cherry tomato clams.
Why these tomatoes? I have many (smart, good) reasons. First, cherry tomatoes – even when not seasonal – taste more like tomatoes. They are sweeter and juicier than their larger counterparts and are almost never mealy. These are useful little things that can sit on the counter for weeks, while remaining edible. They may wrinkle a little, but that’s okay , I found it just concentrates their taste.
Cherry tomatoes are an easy way to add freshness to your daily diet. It doesn’t matter what else you did or ate that day, at least you ate a piece of the plant and this plant was high in vitamin C and lycopene. They are also incredibly versatile. In addition to putting them raw in your mouth (or in a bowl of cottage cheese ), you can fry them for a British breakfast , stir- fry them in a sauce , sauté them for salsa, or leave them in the low-temperature oven overnight . for a sweet and boiled side. The other day, I tucked them under a fried chicken with garlic and shallots and ground them on crispy bread to make the perfect midnight snack. If you’re really bored, you can peel them and make one of my favorite salads . If you are really desperate, you can mix them with pickles for Bloody Mary. You have a lot of options with these guys, that’s what I’m telling you.
