See Your State’s COVID-19 Test Results With This Tracker
Undoubtedly, we have far more cases of COVID-19 in the US than tests have shown, but testing is still an important way to understand how far this outbreak has spread. An online tool called the Covid Tracking Project has collected test data from every state if you want to keep track of how this is happening.
The tracker covers all states plus the District of Columbia, as well as US territories such as Puerto Rico and American Samoa.
This tracker is a handy way to find your state data, but it also comes with a lot of caveats. States may use different guidelines to decide, for example, who to test, and not all of them report results in the same way. Each state’s data has a note on what they mean, as you can see in the screenshot above.
The tracker also keeps track of historical data. Screenshots of each state’s numbers are taken multiple times a day ( here’s New York ), so you can check how the numbers have changed over time. Some states disaggregate results by county or provide maps; others just give a few numbers or the message “no business yet.”
“The information is heterogeneous and inconsistent, so we openly talk about what we find and how we deal with it,” write the creators of the tracker. In the chaos of the current situation, this is probably the best thing anyone can do.
