Be Careful When Buying WIC Items at the Grocery Store Right Now
When you’re shopping for groceries right now, you may not have much of a choice when it comes to what you can find and buy. This choice is even more limited if you happen to be the person shopping for the family through WIC.
WIC is a special complementary feeding program for women, babies, and children. This is a program specifically for low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under the age of five.
A group from Maine tweeted that people who shop for their families using WIC are limited in what they can buy . WIC eligible products are usually labeled “WIC” on the shelf. This means that if all the WIC items are gone when they get there, they won’t be able to buy anything.
If you’re in a store right now and these shelves are relatively empty and you have the option of choosing between two different items on the shelf, consider purchasing these non-WIC items. It can at least help give people who can only buy these items a chance to get them.
