Deep Clean One Abandoned Part of Your Kitchen Every Week
Given that you’ll probably spend a little more time preparing food these days, it’s possible that you’ve noticed a few dark, abandoned areas of your kitchen that need love and attention. I’m not suggesting you spend all your socially isolated hours cleaning the oven , but picking a small kitchen beautification project weekly will make the room a nicer place.
Doing one kitchen project a week made me feel a little less anxious and crazy, and also visibly brightened my kitchen, a room that I already spent a lot of time in but now spend even more. So far, I’ve cleaned out the top of the built-in units, wiped the top of the refrigerator, and reorganized my pantry (which I had to do anyway to accommodate all the beans and pasta). It’s important to choose a project that feels at least a little enjoyable – like redesigning a bar cart to be aesthetically pleasing, or throwing away a bunch of expired salad dressings – and avoiding those that make you fearful. Potential projects include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning the trash bin
- Washing the trash can (surprisingly helpful)
- The shining of your shell
- Clean up a dirty stain behind a faucet in the kitchen
- Collecting your collection of mugs
- Reorganize a mass of pots and pans
- Throwing away old pint glasses
- Cleaning the oven
The point is to gradually improve your kitchen without worrying about it. If you’re going to cook as much as you think, do what you cook in a pleasant place as well.
