How Do You Survive at Home With Children?
I woke up this morning sincerely not knowing what day it was. It was either Wednesday or Thursday, of which I was almost certain. As long as the week was felt, it should be Saturday, but for the time being Saturday will resemble Monday, so doesn’t it really matter what day it is at all? It’s definitely Thursday (Friday?)
I know that I am not alone. Many of you have children who don’t go to school and work from home or otherwise struggle to socially distance themselves from others as much as possible. Everything went surprisingly well in my house. Already.
My son has a schedule that he likes, we play board games and walk a lot. We are trying to take advantage of the avalanche of free educational content that is being offered on the Internet right now. And we finally watch movies and read books that we never had time for before because of basketball, karate or whatever we used to do.
But this is still a novelty now. And this novelty will soon disappear. Thoughts “I’m not sure how long I can really do this” began to creep into the depths of my soul, although I realize that it doesn’t really matter how long I think I can do it; I still have to do it.
This is where we need to get creative and learn from each other. What works this week may not work next week. So, if you are surviving this coronavirus storm from home, how do you do it? What worked – or what you found really is n’t working?
Are you on a super tight schedule or are you an ally now? If you have two parents at home, how do you divide work and parenting time? If you do it yourself, how, for heaven’s sake, do you do it? If you still play sports, how do you manage childcare? Have you stepped up your parenting game, or have you completely lowered your standards?
Tell us in the comments: How do you survive being at home all day, every day, with your kids?
