Teach Young Children to Cough Into a Cough Pocket
As the coronavirus infiltrates our communities, we stocked up on hand sanitizer and hand sanitizer (if we could find one), we finally learned how to properly wash our hands after a lifetime of inadequate foam, and now we ‘have to get our kids to stop coughing everywhere.
But getting kids – especially toddlers and preschoolers – to stop brazenly coughing into the air is no easy task. Even getting them to cover their mouth with a hand seems like progress, but in fact it is not, because now they are going to use that hand to spread their germs to all possible surfaces.
Therefore, we are trying to teach them to cough in the elbows, as civilized people who are unable to spread germs do. But saying “cough on the elbow” is far from being as cute, catchy or memorable as saying “use your cough pocket”. Preschool teacher Laurie Goff explains on Twitter :
“Simple, easy to use, it’s on your body, it’s free, it’s always with you,” notes Goff.
Adults should also simulate this practice by coughing and / or sneezing into their own cough pockets.
