How to Set up Multiple Email Signatures in Gmail
Regardless of whether you are multiple personalities or don’t like to include your personal phone number in every email you reply to, editing the signature for every email can be annoying. While many third-party apps let you choose from multiple signatures when composing or replying to an email, Google is finally bringingthis feature to Gmail itself. Here’s how to set it up.
Assuming this feature is available to you – Google is rolling out it slowly – you’ll start by downloading the Gmail settings. It’s the gear icon in the upper right corner (or so) that you click on and then select Settings .
If you then scroll down to the Signature field, you should see the option to create a new signature (in addition to the one you already have). Click on it and get to work. If you don’t see this option like I do, your impatience will be triggered and you wonder why Google can’t just roll out such small changes for everyone at once.
You should also be able to give your signatures a name, which is important as this is how you will then select them when you compose or reply to an email. Look for the little “signature menu” in your “action toolbar” as Google puts it – in other words, look for the pen icon.
It’s nice to see that whatever signature you choose will overwrite whatever you had previously, rather than complementing it. Now, if only there was a way to set up some sort of filter so that posts for specific people, domains, or based on qualifying words in the subject line will automatically default to one signature instead of the other. Does anyone want to write a Chrome extension for this?
