How to Use Google’s New GIF Search Tools
Google has released several new GIF search tools that should make it easier to find the exact animated image you’re looking for. Users can use tools that use search data from the Tenor GIF app to narrow down their search more precisely and receive suggestions based on their desired mood or context. You no longer have to go through unrelated images and fiddle with search queries to find the GIF you want.
You will find all the search tools in this Medium post . They are easy to use – just click / click on the dropdown and enter the name, action or mood you want to search for, however each tool has its own unique search function. Here’s what they do:
- The first two search fields show which moods, actions, or emotions are most associated with a particular celebrity or fictional character. The first field lists the ratings in a collage of boxes stacked on top of each other, while the other lists them in order of ranking, with the most popular ones listed at the top.
- The next field allows you to search based on a specific action or emotion to see the most used GIFs and the most popular celebrities for that category.
- The latter tool allows you to display various celebrity gifs based on the emotional spectrum – happy / sad and laugh / cry – with positive GIFs on the right and negative ones on the left.
For now, these tools seem to be only available in the medium post, but we hope they will appear in the Tenor app and webpage in the future. At the same time, they help determine which search results will perform best, and it’s interesting to know what moods or actions certain characters and celebrities are associated with.
