Do You Need a Pair of Kitchen Shoes
I have terribly poor circulation to my limbs, which means I wear thick socks and slippers around the clock from October to May. This year I got some very comfortable slippers for Christmas – and immediately started spilling all sorts of nonsense on them while preparing dinner for my family. Fortunately, none of the stains remained stubborn, but the first thing I did when I got home was to take out a few old sneakers and tuck them by the stove. Whether you have your own fancy slippers, if you cook a lot, I highly recommend that you do the same. Your kitchen is probably both rougher and more dangerous than other rooms in your house, so having a pair of shoes just for cooking makes a lot of sense. Not only will they protect your toes and socks from puddles of crockery, but they will also provide adequate protection from falling objects to prevent serious tragedy. They look like leg aprons. No need to go out and buy fancy clogs from the chef; Any pair of closed-toe shoes that can withstand impact will work. I have a worn pair of low-topped vans with flat-heeled shoes so I can get in and out of them quickly. They’re so beaten that I can spill anything on them and I don’t care, and when I’m done cooking, I dump them and leave them in the kitchen where they belong.
