How to Stream Streaming From Xbox One to Android Phone or Tablet

Xbox One owners can now stream games from their consoles to their Android smartphones and tablets. For players on PC and PlayStation are available for some time similar options for streaming, but until now, Microsoft has limited streaming to Xbox One on a PC with Windows.

Android device support is an obvious step towards Microsoft’s cloud streaming plans for next-gen consoles, but streaming to your phone is still in final testing at this point. Because of this, you may experience inconsistent performance and higher latency than expected when trying to stream games at home.

Aside from potential glitches, users should be able to start streaming to their Android device after meeting the following technical requirements :

To stream from Xbox One to Android, you’ll need

  • Microsoft account with an active subscription to Xbox Live, which is also involved in the pre-program assessment of the Xbox .
  • Xbox One registered with Xbox One Updates Preview. More information can be found here .
  • Android phone or tablet with at least Android 6.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities.
  • Xbox One Wireless Bluetooth Controller for pairing with your phone or tablet.
  • To set your Xbox One power options to Instant On
  • Decent home Wi-Fi setup. Your home network must have at least 4.75 Mbps upstream bandwidth (although Microsoft recommends 9 Mbps) and network latency of 125ms or less. (Sit close to your wireless router if you experience hiccups.)

If you clear this list of requirements, here’s how to start streaming:

  1. Download the Xbox Game Streaming app from the Google Play store.
  2. Once installed, open the app and follow the installation instructions to get started.
  3. Don’t forget to connect your Bluetooth enabled controller to your phone or tablet!

If something needs to be improved, the application will inform you about it. Microsoft’s official streaming program on Reddit has guides and other additional resources in case you run into any issues (or are looking for ways to set up your home network for streaming requirements).
