How to Find New Boomerang Effects on Instagram

Instagram started rolling out several new effects for the Boomerang feature in the app earlier this week.

Traditionally, the platform’s boomerang is a one-second video clip that plays back and forth six times, creating a six-second loop that can then be shared with friends via Instagram Stories.

The new features build on this, offering you a few more creative options. There is also a crop function now, so you can choose exactly the part of the video you want to share, instead of stopping on the video exactly as you took it.

New features include:

  • SlowMo – Slows your Boomerang video down to half speed. With this, you get a video that plays for two seconds in each direction, rather than one at a time.
  • Duo – starts by fast rewinding the clip, giving it a digitized look.
  • Echo – This feature gives your video a ghosting appearance by adding motion blur to any moving parts of the video.

To try any of these, start by shooting the boomerang in the app exactly as you normally would. After that, tap the infinity symbol that appears at the top of the screen.

There you will find new effects as well as a trimmer. You can experiment with them until you improve your video. When you’re done, you can share this video via Stories as usual.

If you use Boomerang on Instagram a lot, this can be an easy way to give your videos a fresh look with little extra effort.
