Best Time to Book Flights in 2020
If you’re looking for a great flight deal, it’s a hell of a game of guessing when to pull the trigger, given the daily and even hourly price changes on booking sites. Luckily, analysts at the travel app Hopper recently analyzed several billion flight prices in 2019 to help you find some of the best moments to book flights ahead of this year’s big holidays.
For example, if you’re planning Memorial Day ahead of time, Hopper recommends that you book your tickets four weeks in advance (or the week of April 27) to find some of the lowest fares. If you’re wondering when to book your trip home for Thanksgiving, the best time to look for flights is around the last week of October.
Booking any future trip in January isn’t such a bad idea either. According to the report, Hopper estimates that airfare prices will remain relatively low this month and will rise from February to June to meet spring-summer demand. In other words, if you’re not willing to take the risk and wait and complete your plans, booking a trip is probably not such a bad idea.
Here’s some more data from the report, courtesy of Hopper:
- For Easter travel, book at least six weeks in advance (or the week of Sunday, March 1st).
- For the 4th of July, book at least four weeks in advance (or Saturday 6th June).
- Book at least five weeks in advance for Labor Day (or Monday 3rd August).
- Book at least eight weeks in advance for Christmas (or Friday, October 30th).
