How to Find and Use the Updated Facebook Privacy Checker Tool

Facebook kicks off 2020 by updating its privacy checker tool, introduced back in 2014, that makes it easier for users to find and change some important account settings. In all fairness, aside from some visual flair and updated explanations for each setting, this isn’t a great update, nor does it include all of the privacy and security features available to users.

That said, it’s still smart to know how to find the privacy check, especially since the revamped design should make it a bit easier to navigate through the included options.

You will find the privacy checker tool by clicking or clicking “?” in the upper right corner of the Facebook user interface, then select Privacy Check from the menu.

This will take you to a new screen that guides you through a few tweaks that change things like:

  • Who can see your profile information and posts.
  • Password and notification updates.
  • Who can find you on Facebook and whether your profile is viewable on search engines.
  • Who can send you friend requests.
  • Which apps do you allow Facebook to share information with.

This is not a complete list of all the data privacy features that users have access to, but it’s better than nothing. We also encourage you to spend a few minutes trying to toughen setting their Facebook Messenger, as well as Instagram and WhatsApp, until you do it.

Most of these settings are specific to other users and the applications you use, which excludes a whole other category of people who can access your information: advertisers. While you won’t find them when checking your privacy, there are other tools available that allow users to manage the data that Facebook itself holds about you , or to prevent their personal information from being passed on to advertisers and other companies, which honestly is probably what more people are worried about. these days because of Facebook’s leaky track record lately.
