Get Live Signatures and Pixel Themes With December Google Security Update

Here comes the December Android security update. If you’re the proud owner of a Pixel phone, it’s time to check if you can get the latest fixes, patches and features for your device. But remember: Google is releasing an update as always, so you may not have it yet.

Which pixels are getting the December update?

As for Pixels, the December update applies to Google’s Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 smartphones – and of course the XL versions. But if you have a Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL, don’t try to check for updates today. You will have to wait until next week to pick it up. It’s just the way it is .

And if you’re still using the original Google Pixel or Pixel XL, this is your last update, period. However, this should come as no surprise; When the devices launched, Google promised two years of Android version updates and three years of security updates. We picked the latest for the October security patch, and Google skipped the November device update to release the latest summary today.

Are the December updates just fixing security issues?

Nope! In addition to these , Google also fixes a number of noteworthy bugs, which are detailed separately :

The December update will bring a number of features to older Pixel phones. According to testing by Android Police , these include:

  • Live Subtitles : Active on Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.
  • Pixel Themes : Active on Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.
  • Gesture Navigation for Third Party Launchers: Active on Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.
  • Swipe down to expand the notification bar : active on Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL

While no one has a clue when your non-Pixel phone will receive the December 2019 security update, chances are good it will probably be rolling out to your device now (or at some point soon). … That includes you, the owners of Samsung and Essential smartphones.
