How to Double Your Donation on Charity Tuesday
Good Tuesday! On that day, we are all celebrating charity, not shopping gluttony this weekend, by donating money to groups and organizations that agree with our worldview. This is also the day that you can earn more than usual by supporting the organizations you support with the maximum amount of cash available.
The easiest way to do this is to take advantage of any relevant programs your employer may offer. You should already know if they do it or not, but if you need a little reminder, try searching for your company on the official Double Donation page on Tuesday.
And don’t stop there. There are other organizations that can match your donations to a certain amount today. Since I work in Silicon Valley, I’ve also seen a lot of mentions from friends who would be more than happy to donate on my behalf using their employer’s matching programs to double that amount if I send them money. …
While this means I will not be able to write off the said donation before taxes, this is the price they pay to potentially double the amount they give. This is a great strategy if you donate less and the tax write-off doesn’t really matter; to a lesser extent if you plan to give your friends $ 15,000 – the maximum amount you can send to a friend without paying gift tax – as a large one-time double donation to your favorite charity.
It is also helpful to have reliable friends if you are on this path. There is no shame in asking for a receipt or other proof that they made the specified donation on your behalf.
